the Root of Modern Health Issues
Why an ancient Vedic science still illuminates modern disease

The Modern Crisis
More knowledge, more medicine — and more chronic disease
Western society finds itself in a paradox: never have we had more medical knowledge, more pharmaceutical
interventions, or more access to food — and yet chronic disease is at an all-time high. The root cause
is largely being missed.

Why the Body Never Gets to Repair
Chronic insulin elevation blocks autophagy
We eat too often, too much, and too heavily weighted toward carbohydrates and processed foods.
Insulin levels remain chronically elevated, and the body never gets the signal to rest, repair
and regenerate.
Autophagy — the body's cellular repair process — requires periods of not eating to activate.
Without it, cells accumulate damage.

Insulin Resistance: The Common Root
One hormone, felt across the entire system
Persistently high insulin leads to insulin resistance — cells stop responding to insulin's signals.
It acts on muscle, liver, fat tissue and brain appetite centres, each with its own consequence.

The Well-Evidenced Path
Falling insulin, resumed autophagy
A very low-carbohydrate diet combined with intermittent fasting allows insulin levels to fall and
autophagy to resume. Drugs, by contrast, largely manage symptoms rather than address the underlying cause.
If the solution is relatively straightforward, why is it not more widely adopted? The answer may lie
in how we understand the relationship between mind, body and nature itself.

Ayurveda: The Science of Life
Three fundamental qualities underlying all creation
VATA
Movement
PITTA
Transformation
KAPHA
Structure
Ayurveda holds that all of creation — including the human mind and body — is composed of these three
qualities, present in every person as a natural constitutional balance.

The Five Elements
Water bridges transformation and structure
| Dosha | Elements |
|---|---|
| Vata | Space + Air |
| Pitta | Fire + Water |
| Kapha | Water + Earth |
Water appears in both Pitta and Kapha — it carries qualities of transformation and structure,
which is exactly why it bridges the two. Winter is a Vata season. An elephant is a Kapha animal.
The liver is a Pitta organ.

The Three Constitutional Types
Recognisable right down to food preferences
VATA
Thin, quick-minded, cold, light. Out of balance: overthinking, anxiety. Craves sweet, sour, salty.
PITTA
Medium build, sharp, driven, organised. Out of balance: overheating, inflammation. Craves sweet, bitter, astringent.
KAPHA
Slower, heavier, patient, caring. Out of balance: low motivation, low mood. Craves bitter, astringent, pungent.

Yoga & the Unified Field
Life is based on Being
Yoga teaches that all life is based on Being — a silent, unbounded field of awareness underlying
all thought and activity. This points to a single unified field beneath all laws of nature —
intelligent, orderly and self-referential.
If even one law of nature — gravity, or the boiling point of water — were 0.1% different, life as
we know it could not exist. That precision implies intelligence at its basis.

Jyotish: The Science of Light
Experiential science, not superstition
A natal chart, calculated from the exact time and place of birth, can illuminate characteristic
qualities of a person with remarkable accuracy. Dasha periods — cycles of planetary influence —
show the leading themes of specific chapters of a life.
When a person looks back and finds that each Dasha period genuinely matches their lived experience,
that is not superstition — it is experiential science.

Bringing It Together
A return to the root, not an alternative to it
Balance and intelligence are the natural state of life. Chronic disease is not an inevitable
consequence of ageing — it is largely the result of disrupting the body's natural intelligence
through chronic overfeeding, insulin excess, and the suppression of the body's own repair mechanisms.
Ayurveda understood this thousands of years ago, framing it in terms of doshic balance rather than
metabolic markers — but pointing to the same truth. Restoring that balance, through diet, fasting
and routine, is not alternative medicine. It is a return to the root.
