Yoga For Vata, Pitta & Kapha

Yoga practices are customised for the Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas based on the Ayurvedic principle of balancing like with opposite qualities.
The style, pace, and environment of the yoga practice should counter the qualities of the dominant dosha to restore harmony.

Yoga for Vata (Air and Ether)
Vata is characterised by cold, light, dry, and mobile qualities, leading to restlessness, anxiety, and scattered energy when imbalanced.
Goal: Promote calmness, warmth, grounding, and stability.
Recommended Style: Slow, gentle, and deliberate practices like Hatha Yoga (traditional style focused on held poses and breath) and Restorative Yoga or Yin Yoga.
Key Focus:
Pace: Slow and smooth movements, focusing on transitions and holding poses with stability.
Postures: Grounding poses such as standing poses (Warrior II, Tree Pose), seated forward folds, and Child’s Pose (Balasana).
Environment: Warm and quiet; maintain a consistent routine.

Yoga for Pitta (Fire and Water)
Pitta is characterised by hot, sharp, intense, and mobile qualities, which can manifest as competitiveness, overheating, and irritability when imbalanced.
Goal: Promote cooling, relaxing, non-competitive effort, and surrender.
Recommended Style: Moderate-paced flows like Vinyasa Flow (practiced with relaxed effort) or Hatha Yoga. Pitta types benefit from practices that release heat and tension without creating excessive internal fire.
Key Focus:
Pace: Moderate and fluid, avoiding aggressive holds or quick movements driven by ego.
Postures: Cooling poses such as seated twists, side body openers, and especially Forward Folds.
Environment: Never Hot Yoga (temperatures of 30–40°C or higher) as the added external heat will severely aggravate the already fiery Pitta dosha. Practice in a cool, well-ventilated space.

Yoga for Kapha (Earth and Water)
Kapha is characterised by heavy, slow, cool, and stable qualities, leading to sluggishness, lethargy, and mental dullness when imbalanced.
Goal: Promote stimulation, warmth, lightness, and invigorating movement.
Recommended Style: Vigorous and dynamic practices such as Ashtanga Yoga, Power Yoga, or a fast-paced Vinyasa Flow.
Key Focus:
Pace: Active, challenging, and continuous movement to increase heat and metabolism.
Postures: Poses that stimulate circulation, increase energy, and open the chest, such as Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar), backbends, and inversions.
Environment: Warm, bright, and stimulating.
