The Reintroduction Phase

You may find you don’t want to go back to any of your previous habits which weren’t in the Full GAPS phase, or you may possibly want to introduce a few such as buckwheat or sweet potatoes.

It is recommended to stay on the Full GAPS diet for two years but if your gut recovery and symptoms improve sooner, you may be able to start reintroducing foods that are restricted after only a year or even six months. For example, you could start with potatoes and fermented gluten-free grains like buckwheat, millet, and quinoa.

When reintroducing always start with a very small amount for a few days to see if you have a reaction. But don’t reintroduce food items because you think you should, it needs to be based on what you like to eat. And if you have starchy foods like potatoes, don’t forget to include some ghee, olive oil, coconut oil, or animal fat which will help to slow down the digestive process.
