Dr Ken Berry on BP

This video, by Dr Ken Berry about High Blood Pressure Diet & Improved Hypertension, suggests that traditional high blood pressure diets, like the DASH and Mediterranean diets, are often high in carbohydrates and restrict salt, which the speaker, a family physician, says goes against our natural biological needs. He argues that these diets are often hard to follow and have limited effectiveness.

The video proposes a low-carbohydrate, whole-food diet instead. This diet suggests limiting carbohydrates to less than 50 grams per day and salting food to taste. This approach is said to help lower blood pressure by reducing blood sugar, insulin, and cortisol levels, which in turn helps the body excrete excess fluid and reduce inflammation. The video recommends eating two to three meals a day with no snacking in between and spacing them out to at least 16 hours, including sleep time, which is made easier by the satiating effects of the high fat and protein meals.
