Insulin Resistance - Could This Be Happening To You?

The Insulin Resistance Crisis – Could this be you? Find out in a few days.

The vast majority of people with essential hypertension have insulin resistance as a primary driver. A commonly accepted level of the HOMA-IR score for Insulin Resistance is 1.9 or 2.0. Also, a healthy score is just under 1.0, but have a score of 1.5 does not always mean you are less healthy. As we all know, some people are naturally heavier build and this does not mean they are less healthy.

Over the past 75 years, dietary patterns in the US and UK have undergone dramatic transformation. The shift toward processed foods and continuous eating throughout the day—eliminating traditional periods of intermittent fasting—has fuelled an epidemic of insulin resistance

Despite insulin resistance being a primary driver of both hypertension and type 2 diabetes, conventional medical treatment has largely failed to address dietary root causes. Physicians, lacking nutritional training and unable to directly control patient food choices, have defaulted to managing symptoms through medication rather than prevention. Antihypertensive medication use has grown from under 6% in 1950 to over 60% of hypertensive patients today, while the underlying metabolic dysfunction remains unaddressed.

This disconnect has created an uninformed public that doesn’t seek dietary solutions because they’ve never been offered a clear, consistent message. Most people with high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes have never been tested for insulin resistance or educated about its causal role in their conditions. The absence of standardised dietary guidance has left millions treating symptoms while the metabolic fire continues burning.

The evidence is now overwhelming: insulin resistance, driven by modern eating patterns, is the common denominator.

Prevalence of insulin resistance and related risk factors for cardiovascular disease in patients with essential hypertension”.
Approximately 50% of patients with essential hypertension, both treated and untreated, appear to be insulin resistant, and CVD risk factors are greatly accentuated in this subset of patients. But even that test treated insulin levels to be very high before they considered it to be insulin resistant. What this means is that around 75% 50 90% were actually insulin resistant.

Yet effective solutions exist. A very low carbohydrate diet (VLCD)—eliminating refined sugar and grains, reducing starch, and incorporating nourishing meat broths—combined with intermittent fasting a few days each week produces significant insulin level reductions. The initial challenge of cravings typically resolves within just a few days, making this approach surprisingly sustainable.

Without systematic testing and consistent public health messaging about these evidence-based dietary interventions, this preventable crisis will continue expanding, consuming healthcare resources while diminishing quality of life for millions who could reverse their condition through informed nutritional choices.

Take Control: Know Your Insulin Resistance Score

Are you treating high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes without knowing the real cause?

Insulin resistance drives both conditions, yet the NHS doesn’t routinely test for it. A private HOMA-IR test reveals your insulin resistance level—the metabolic dysfunction behind your symptoms. For £149, a professional phlebotomist comes to your home, making testing convenient and stress-free.

Stop managing symptoms. Understand the root cause. With your HOMA-IR results, you can make informed dietary changes that address insulin resistance directly—potentially reducing or eliminating your need for medication.
Knowledge is power. Book your home HOMA-IR test today at vitall.co.uk/test/coc-homa-ir-insulin-resistance
