The G.I.V.E. Method

The G.I.V.E. method is a simple way to incorporate five aspects of diet and routine to apply a GAPS diet well. Here are the words involved, with a little explanation.

G – Gut microbiome – it’s so easy for this to get out of balance.
I – Integrity of the wall. This can break down because of imbalance in the diet, or or high levels of stress that lead the vagus nerve to send messages to the gut leading to intestinal permeability.
V – Vagus nerve. This is a way for by directional communication between the brain and the gut wall. Which has a vagus nerve connection about every millimetre. Under stress, the brain send messages down the vagus nerve to the gut which leads to increased intestinal permeability.
E – Enzymes. A balance in the gut enzymes are crucial to the proper digestion and absorption of nutrients. Modern science is only recently discovered the key role that the right amount, and the right activity of enzymes is key to the health of the gut microbiome. There is more about this in this section.

The other very important part of this method is to work with a qualified GAPS Coach. This is important because they would have experience with many of the issues that individuals can have with a compromised intestinal wall and gut microbiome.

Most modern diets are so imbalanced compared to, say 100 years ago. For example, modern weights have far much more gluten than they did even 60 years ago, which leads to an imbalance in the micro biome because there’s an insufficient number in the gut that are able to process high levels of gluten. The other ingredient which the modern diet has much more of is cane sugar or corn syrup sugar.
